    Can I DIY Remove My Popcorn Ceiling?

    The short answer is yes you can always DIY your own popcorn ceiling removal job. And you are certainly capable of doing a great job!

    But if you don’t mind, let me walk you through some of the challenges you’re about to face if you want to remove it yourself.

    Here’s our process for a quality job removing popcorn ceilings:

    •  Start by removing everything inside the room (easier said than done for some customers)
    • Next cover every outlet and remove all light fixtures or ceiling fans in the room because it’s going to get a little wet in the room
    • Lay down a drop clothe over the entire ground. This is messy…
    • Now find and fill a spray bottle with warm water (larger bottles are better because you’ll be in that room a while)
    • Then spray the water on a 3′ x 3′ section of the ceiling thick enough to get it moist but light enough not to drip
    • Wait about 15-20 minutes for the water to sink in
    • Grab a scrapping tool and shim off the texture on the ceiling. Be careful not to press too hard and damage the drywall
    • Once you’ve completed that section, repeat the process over and over until the ceiling is done
    For some people, that sounds easy. And we wish you the best of luck in removing your popcorn textured ceiling.
